I was digging through boxes of pictures this morning for something to post for Throwback Thursday #tbt and had trouble finding a candid photo that I was in. I thought that maybe someone started organizing the pictures amd there would be a treasure of childhood Jacki pictures in a envelope deep within the pile of 5 boxes. I stopped looking after 2 boxes because it was time for work and Facebook should never interfere with work!
I was excited to get to my Coventry Creations office because today was the day I got my new telephoto lens! I am taking pictures at the 2014 Ferndale Pride event and the lens is exactly what the doctor ordered. Carefully I unwrapped my new prize and started to play and think about the missing pictures from my childhood when a realization hit me. I was behind the camera as often as in front of it as a child. I am the reason there are so many out of focus, poorly lit, and jiggly pictures. Holding my camera with its new lens in my hand reminded me of how much my father loved to take pictures and how I would sneak his camera and snap off a few random amature shots.
Photography has come in and out of my life and has been my passport in, my protection against and an expression of creativity I have not acknowledged until this year. At times of uncomforable disconnect, taking pictures has been my way of staying engaged and safe at the same time.
