I’m going to be blunt – it’s going to be a tough month. Perhaps, one of the toughest months of the year. Astrologically, we are building up to the final battle between Saturn (restrictions, limitations, isolation) and Uranus (freedom, rebellion) that come within 1 degree of orb this month.

So many themes of the past two years will resurface and be triggered as planets move through the sign of Scorpio. So, buckle your seat belt, turbulence is on the horizon.

Now, let’s dive into Scorpio season that begins later this month.

Reptiles have always been associated with the sign of Scorpio. The symbolism of the snake shedding its skin reflects Scorpio's powers of transformation and its natural association with death and disintegration. And there is no better figure to represent the sign of the scorpion than the mythic Medusa.

There are various versions of Medusa’s origin story, but in all of them she is violated by the God Poseidon and the result is a woman transformed by her outrage and bitterness. Medusa’s face is the embodiment of the horrors of life’s unfairness. If one stumbles across her and stares directly into her eyes, they become paralyzed and turn to stone.

On the personal level, the Medusa lives in all of us. We all experience life’s unfairness, whether directly, indirectly, or incidentally, and some life experiences leave us paralyzed. Psychologically, these experiences turn people into stone, and they become fixated on their wounds, unable to break free, preventing their growth and personal development.

Perseus (the son of Zeus) is tasked with going into Medusa’s layer, at the opening of the underworld (the unconscious), to slay the serpentine monster and retrieve her head. Perseus receives help on his mission from several divine beings who give him a few magical items. He enters Medusa’s layer and ultimately finds her. He uses a magical shield (think mirror) so that he does not look at Medusa directly, and then he cuts off her head and puts it in a magic bag. Once Medusa’s head is severed, out of the toxic blood and poison, Pegasus is born – a beautiful creature that becomes Perseus’s companion.

The good news is that myth always provides a solution, even to the most complex stories. Medusa represents our repressed toxic pain or self-defeating behaviors that leave us stuck and unable to grow. These feelings and behaviors have grown over time and taken over our lives. Perseus represents the process of working through our issues, and he does so by staring into a mirror. Now, I do not know about you, but when I look into a mirror, I see myself. So, Perseus reflects turning inward and seeing oneself honestly. By seeing things clearly, one can turn toxic poisons into something productive and worthwhile. The horrors of Medusa transform into Pegasus, and out of the darkness of Scorpio comes the light of consciousness, and ultimately, freedom from toxins.

This is the power of Scorpio season. We can use its energy to transform the areas of our lives that are wounded into powerful tools that we can use to give life more meaning.

5 Magical Ways to Make the Most Out of Scorpio Season:

1. Remove Self-Defeating Behaviors:  Yes, whether we want to admit it, we all have them. These are the behaviors we repeatedly engage in that have no value and limit our relationships with others. For example, some people have anger issues. Whenever they feel cornered, trapped, or frustrated, they become angry. The anger never resolves their issues, but often scares other people, limiting, or even severing, their interactions. Cosmic Overview for October

The Month of October features five inner planets (Sun through Saturn) moving through the air signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Air signs reflect the process of developing ideas, creating strategies, and communicating with others. Additionally, the air signs are unique because they are the only element not represented by animal figures. Gemini is the twins, the scales of justice represent Libra, and Aquarius is the water bearer. We can use the energy of the month to work on our communication skills, repair damaged relationships, make choices and decisions about the future, and progress our lives forward. Air magic includes prayers and incantations, creating sigils, burning incense, and journaling.

This month Saturn and Uranus are headed for a head-on collision, but luckily, Saturn turns direct on October 23, 2022. The good news is that the two never complete their square. The bad news is that the energies of their 2-year battle will resurface to be dealt with one final time. Saturn reflects the need to maintain the status quo, and Uranus reflects the urge toward progress and change. Since this is a square aspect, you can expect obstacles, frustrations, and tensions to occur. Working with these two energies requires honest self-searching. You need to look at the areas of your life where you feel stuck. Even if you are afraid of making changes in your life, it is better to make them on your own, rather than those changes be made for you. Although it may be scary, the changes you make will help you lead a more fulfilling life.

Jupiter Returns to Pisces

Since May, Jupiter has been moving through the sign of Aries, but on October 28th, Jupiter returns to Pisces, the sign he rules. When a planet retrogrades back into another sign, it means there is unfinished business. The good news is that since Jupiter rules Pisces, the unfinished business is usually for the greater good. Jupiter in Aries is about acting on ways to improve your life, while Jupiter in Pisces is about “the dream” of what you want to do with your life. You may have career ambitions that you want to pursue, or you may want to build a family or find a long-term partner. Jupiter’s return to Pisces means you need to relook at your dreams and see whether they are viable. Sometimes we get caught up in our fantasies and often overlook whether our dreams are realistic. Jupiter provides us with the opportunity to course correct, and this gives us the ability to take proper action once Jupiter returns to Aries later in the year.

Oh No, MARS RETROGRADE!

Everyone is familiar with Mercury retrograde, mainly because of all those pesky communication problems. However, Mars is a different beast, and he can be as annoying as his little brother Mercury. Mars is the get-up-and-go planet. He likes to take action and get the Sun what he wants. While Mars is retrograde, you will notice that your energy levels may feel depleted. It is also harder to get things going, because obstacles may stymie your momentum. So, you can expect Mars retrograde to be tense, and it may be difficult to keep your emotions under control. Instead, it’s easy for your emotions to erupt and flow over with the slightest provocation.

Working with Mars Rx is tricky. It requires brutal self-honesty and the need to be proactive rather than reactive. You may need to hit the pause button before acting, especially if you feel emotionally charged. Take note of when you feel like someone is provoking you. The areas of your life that you are willing to “get into it” over hold the keys to where Mars is currently blocked. You will then know where to take action (once Mars is direct) to meet your needs and can begin to get what you want. Mars remains retrograde until January 12, 2023.

Full Moon in Aries:

The Full Moon in Aries occurs on October 9th at 4:55 PM EDT/1:55 PM PDT. The Full Moon in Aries is a two-week cycle of letting go of personal attributes that we may not like about ourselves or are no longer effective. Are there any individual behaviors that you would like to let go of? Oh, and news flash – we all have them! Since Mars is in Gemini, you can also look at how you communicate with others, and whether your communication style hinders your interpersonal relationships. This work is not easy, but the fruits of your internal work will pay off in the end.

Solar Eclipse in Scorpio:

On October 25th, eclipse season begins with a Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. If there was a notable epicenter for the yearly lunation cycles through the signs, then eclipses would be it. Eclipses occur when a lunation (New Moon or Full Moon) occurs within 18 degrees of the lunar nodes, and there are between 4-8 eclipses per year. So, for personal purposes, you can view eclipses as ‘hot spots’ or areas you need to work through during a given year. Ordinarily, I would recommend doing transformational healing and personal power magic during a New Moon in Scorpio, but this month I recommend only protection and cleansing magic.

October 3, 2022 – October 9, 2022

The first week of October starts with Mercury having just gone direct in Virgo. Communications will slowly improve, and you can begin implementing anything you put off. So, you can breathe a sigh of relief, and know that Mercury remains direct until December 29th, when it turns retrograde in Capricorn.

In other astrology news, the Moon moves through Capricorn on Monday, trines Uranus and Mercury, and sextiles Neptune. You may feel a little restless throughout the day, and you should take a break from your responsibilities to do something different and outside the box. Later on Monday, the Moon trines Pluto, and intense emotions may surface that you should handle as proactively as possible. On Tuesday, the Moon moves into social Aquarius, and connections with friends and associates may prove important.

During the middle of the week, Mercury forms a favorable trine to Pluto. This is an excellent time to look deep within yourself and get in touch with your inner being. Your insights can lead to profound change that ultimately transforms the quality of your life. It’s also an excellent time to resolve issues that require intense focus, and Pluto helps you get the results you need.

This weekend, the Moon moves through Pisces, and it’s an excellent weekend to spend time alone and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the real world. On Saturday, the Moon moves into Aries and conjoins Jupiter. It’s time to focus on your goals and go after what you want in life. Remember, you can achieve anything that you put your mind to, as long as you are willing to put in the effort to get it.

October 10, 2022 – October 16, 2022

The second week of October starts with Mercury moving out of Virgo and into airy Libra. Whereas Mercury in Virgo is about discovering the facts so you can create order in your life, Mercury in Libra encourages you to weigh all your options and listen to the opinions of others. While Mercury is in Libra, it’s a great time to look at your relationships, seek balance and harmony, and develop strategies to improve them. 

Batten down the hatches on Wednesday, because Mars forms a difficult aspect to Neptune in Pisces. Mars square Neptune is a low-energy aspect that often leads to feelings of self-doubt and triggers your inner inadequacies. This could lead you to behave in curious ways that may be more undermining than helpful. Avoid acting deviously or underhandedly, because it will eventually lead to blowback.

The weekend begins with Venus forming a lovely trine to Saturn. Venus trine Saturn is an excellent time to focus on your finances, because Saturn is the planet of structure and responsibilities, and gives you the ability to realistically look at your fiscal picture. On Saturday and Sunday, the Moon moves through Cancer, and you will want to stay home and be domestic. It’s the perfect time to do home repair or redecorating.

October 17, 2022 – October 23, 2022

The third week of October is the busiest week of the month, and it’s a mixed bag of tricks with positive aspects at the beginning of the week, troubling aspects midweek, and then a lovely Sun-Venus conjunction during the weekend.

We start the week off with the Sun trine Mars on Monday. The Sun trine Mars is an energetic aspect that is perfect to start the week. It’s great if you have tasks that require physical activities because Sun trine Mars boosts your endurance and helps you power through and get things done. If you need to start something new, now would be an excellent time to do it. On Tuesday, Venus in Libra trines Mars in Gemini. Venus trine Mars is about going after what you want and getting it, and you may even notice an increase in your sex drive. If you want to attract someone (or something) new in your life, this is great energy for attraction magic.

During the middle of the week, Pluto threatens to rain on your parade as he squares both the Sun and Venus. The Sun square Pluto is about letting go of patterns or behaviors that no longer work. You can expect that the areas of your life that are not doing all that well will become apparent, and this gives you the opportunity to create changes that are beneficial to your overall well-being. On Thursday, difficulties in relationships may surface as Venus squares, Pluto. Avoid holding onto relationships out of fear, because it will only make the eventual relationship ending more difficult.

This weekend, the storm settles, and the Sun rises again and forms a lovely conjunction with Venus. It’s an ideal weekend to go out, socialize, and enjoy the company of others. Also, since Mercury forms a beneficial trine to Saturn, your thinking will be clear, and it’s an exceptional time to make decisions.

October 24, 2022 – October 30, 2022

The last week of October features a potent solar eclipse in Scorpio on Tuesday. I can’t recommend enough protection magic, especially if you live in the eastern part of the United States. Since this eclipse is in the sign of the scorpion, you can expect transformative experiences to occur in your life over the next six months, which may be a game changer. It’s time to let go of old behaviors and patterns that are no longer useful and wipe the slate clean.

Midweek we have a few aspects to note – Mercury in Libra trines Mars in Gemini, and Mercury squares Pluto in Capricorn. Wednesday is a great day to face all your challenges head-on, with Mercury forming a lovely trine to feisty Mars. You will notice an increase in your energy levels and the mental capacity to tackle your problems. However, be prepared on Thursday as Mercury squares obsessive Pluto. Keep an open mind when dealing with others, and avoid participating in manipulative behavior patterns. On a more positive note, Mercury square Pluto is perfect for introspection and soul searching.

The weekend starts with Mercury moving out of Libra and into Scorpio. You will find that you are

interested in the deeper meaning of life, and willing to dig to discover your truth. Avoid falling into a rabbit hole fueled by obsessive thoughts. On Sunday, Mars turns retrograde in Gemini. Expect the boxing gloves to come out, and people will be looking to pick a fight. Since the ‘War Planet’ is in communicative Gemini, expect harsh words to be part of the show. The key to working with Mars Retrograde is to be proactive and avoid reacting to the trespasses of others. Think before you speak, and you may need to turn the other cheek.
